Your privacy matters

What personal information Game Tribe collects, why, and how we look after it. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles, and the GDPR for visitors in the UK and EU.

01What we collect

We only collect what we need for the things you ask us to do.

  • Email lists: your email address, which lists you choose (the Game Tribe newsletter, Game Tribe Studio updates, or both) and which form you used to sign up.
  • Purchases: your name, email, shipping and billing addresses, an optional phone number and your order details. Payments are handled by our shop’s payment providers, so we never see or store your full card details.
  • Contact messages: your name, email, the topic you choose, your message and any order number you add.
  • Event registrations: your contact details and anything you enter in the registration form.
  • Surveys: the answers you give in our optional post-game survey, which runs on Google Forms.
  • Game Tribe Studio: when you join early access, your account details, the files and projects you create, and, once paid plans open, your billing details.
  • Browsing data: technical information such as your IP address, browser, device and the pages you visit, collected by our hosting provider for security and to keep the site running, and through privacy-friendly analytics.

02How we use it

  • Orders: to process, ship and support your orders, including returns and replacements.
  • Email lists: to send the newsletter, Studio updates, early-access invites and free content such as story chapters, only for the lists you chose.
  • Replies and events: to answer your messages and run events and tournaments.
  • Game Tribe Studio: to store your projects, run your account and, once plans open, bill your plan.
  • Improving our games and site: to learn from survey answers and understand which pages are useful.
  • Legal duties: such as keeping tax and accounting records.

03Email marketing

We only send marketing emails to people who signed up. You choose your lists when you join, and you can change them or unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email; it takes effect straight away. Emails about an order, an event you registered for or your Studio account are not marketing and still reach you.

04Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of essential cookies and browser storage to make the site and shop work, for example to remember that you closed the newsletter pop-up. Any analytics we use are privacy-friendly: no advertising cookies, and no tracking you across other websites. If we ever add non-essential cookies, we’ll ask first and you can decline.

05Who we share it with

We never sell your personal information. We share it only with services that help us run Game Tribe, and only what each one needs:

  • Website hosting and security: Cloudflare.
  • Email lists: Sender (sender.net).
  • Contact messages: Cloudflare, which also hosts the website. Game Tribe Studio data, once accounts open, is stored with Supabase.
  • Online shop: Shopify and its payment processors.
  • Surveys and documents: Google (Forms and Slides), for the post-game survey and our online rulebooks.
  • Delivery: couriers, warehouses and fulfilment partners in Australia and overseas, including in the UK.
  • Crowdfunding: platforms such as Kickstarter and Gamefound, when you back one of our campaigns.

06Storage outside Australia

Some of these providers store data overseas, including in the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. We choose reputable providers with recognised security practices.

07How we protect it

We use encrypted services and limit who on our team can access personal information. No online system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.

08How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the reasons above, or as long as the law requires. For example, order records are kept for tax purposes. When you unsubscribe, we remove you from that list but keep a record of the opt-out so we don’t email you again. If you close a Studio account, we delete your files after a short grace period.

09Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it where we don’t need to keep it by law. If you’re in the UK or EU, you also have rights under the GDPR, including data portability, objecting to certain processing and complaining to your local data protection authority. Email us and we’ll respond within 30 days.

10Children

Our games and website are designed for players aged 14 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 without a parent or guardian’s consent. If you believe we have, contact us and we’ll delete it.

12Complaints

If you’re concerned about how we’ve handled your information, email us first and we’ll try to fix it. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
